Don't knit and talk on the phone...DISASTER

This is the chair that I picked up at Value Village yesterday for $9.... right now as you can see, I am using it as a desk. It is not a pretty match with the carpet but I figure if you are using a cardboard box for a doormat (like I am) then you really are not concerned with matching furniture.

Below is the front of Sam's tank.... yesterday's blog showed about 3/4 of the tank finished but today I noticed that I had made a huge mistake half way down the front and the whole damn thing had to be ripped out. I think an experienced knitter could have saved something but with the yarn overs and slipped stitches I didnt have a clue...so out it came.
I made a trip out to my LYS and got another skein of yarn for the tank and got some much needed help on understanding the pattern... I was so excited to get home to continue knitting and that was when I discovered the mistake... poor Sri hid in the other room because I was pitching such a fit....Ruby weathered the storm.

I am going to restart the front of the tank but not until extreme makeover home edition is over... I want to be able to knit without tears tonight

If I were a wealthy man....i would still shop at value village

I have been knitting like a crazy woman... I love knitting with this Rowan tweed yarn. I have finished the back of Sam's tank and this is a picture of the front so far. I am having difficulty understanding the pattern (as predicted by the ladies at the store) so I will have to go back to the store tomorrow and ask for help and maybe I will pick up a little something for myself. I adore these rosewood needles... Sri doesnt agree but I want to register at a yarn store for our wedding and ask for the set of these needles. Yarn store registry is very smart... think of all the wonderful things that you could make to create a happy home (I hope all my family and friends reading this are taking note)....
Wedding update..... the date has been changed from October to December 23rd... all the more time to knit my wedding dress (I hope you dont think im kidding)

Value Village is the best place in the whole entire world. Sri and I have been searching high and low (in tons of different stores) for a desk and shelf for his "office" (the extra bedroom in our apartment) but everything was way too expensive. Finally he gave in and let me decorate his office from value village. I must say that for $49 I did an amazing job.

I bought the table, chair, lamp, and the little stand (record stand)...the stand is perfect for holding files. THe chair is so hilarious looking but it is the most comfortable chair in the world. I am still on the lookout for a round kitchen table, chairs (I bought a gorgeous red chair but didnt take a pic of it because i am using it as a desk for my laptop), coffee table and side tables.
I am looking forward to hitting all 3 of calgary's VV's for all this crap.
I am going to get back to knitting and watching Fiddler on the ROof... i am just bawling my eyes out...as far as I can see it is not even sad (what the heck is wrong with me)

An inspiration

Well I got what I asked for... an expensive yarn shop, actually knit cafe called Knit One, Chat too where I picked up some rowan summer tweed (70% silk) for a tank for Sam...and of course I had to buy the rosewood needles to knit it up with class. I'm hoping that the pattern is accurate because after I purchased all this stuff (with a lot of help from the staff) they revealed to me that Rebecca patterns are often wrong "but if you are an experienced knitter you will be able to figure it out"....well I dont think that would include me!!

Here is a closer look at the yarn...pink with flecks of blue and white and darker pink (im sure there are much fancier names for these colours). Sam wanted brown but I couldnt find any cute browns and I think the pink will look really cute with her tan (from the sun...not the booth).

The middle tank is the one I am making... if it works out there is a really cute knit lace skirt that would look really cute. I hope that she likes it....

I would like to thank the person that commented that I should make a pair of socks with the hemp yarn....it would be horribly uncomfortable but I think I will make them for Rick...just to teach him a lesson.....DONT BE GREEDY WITH THE HIKING SOCKS!!!

Finally some pictures

Well lets start off with knitting. Found this hemp yarn on sale and thought I would get it to make some gloves. It is only now that I look at it on the screen that I realize that I have bought yarn the colour of the Ukrainian flag... uggh. I still have a huge amount of projects to finish but I really don't have the heart to look at them. I know what I need.... I need to find an absurdly expensive yarn store and buy something to make me want to start knitting again...any suggestions????

Okay, now onto the apartment... below is a pic of the IKEA bedroom set that took us FOREVER to put together. Please ignore the thrown together look of the linens but please do take a good look at the horrid carpet...... Ruby mistook this carpet grass many times on the first night!!!!

Miss Ruby has settled in quite nicely and has made a few little spots for herself...like here in front of the sliding doors. Red chairs and green carpet....it will be Christmas here in the Emerald city all year long.

And here in the kitchen in front of the fridge. THis spot is my favourite because if I want to get into the fridge I have to wake her up and I NEVER WANT TO WAKE HER UP.

Apartment living is killing us with the dog...we have to keep her QUIET.... it says so in our lease. We are bribing her a lot.

CARROTS I feel are a healthy bribe.... I just choose not to think about all the sugar in them...Ruby loves them.

This bison bone is the most disgusting but the most effective bribe on earth.... she will stay busy for a long time trying to nibble off some cured flesh from this thing. I think it looks especially beautiful against the green carpet.... don't you?

MOVING DAY

It is 2:00am and I am wide awake. I made the only too common mistake of drinking an ice cold pop about 10 minutes before I wanted to go to bed and now I have restless legs and my tossing and turning has made the bottom sheet come off the bed...so I thought I would catch up on my blog.
Still no pictures and Still no knitting....of course I have pictures but no cable to put them into the computer (Im sure there is a fancy name for it) and I do have knitting but just havent had the time to get to it. On a positive note, we did move our belongings into our apartment today (which I refer to as Emerald City because of the horrid green carpet throughout)....we wont actually be moving in until Friday... that is also the day the welcome wagon comes by to drop off my welcome basket. That means 2 more days of posh living and daily linen changes. What were we thinking???...despite constant pleas from my mother, Sri and I did not bring a bed with us when we MOVED ACROSS THE COUNTRY... for some insane reason we thought we would spend the next year sleeping on an air mattress. Well today was the day that we realized that we actually needed to buy a bed so against my better judgement off to IKEA we went. I would have much rather piece together a bedroom from Value Village but god only knows how long that would have taken. We are now the not so proud owners of an ikea BEDROOM SET... bed, mattress, two side tables and a bureau (dresser for those less classy readers). Can you even imagine how long all that crap is going to take to put together. I will bet that we only get the bed together and that in one year when we are packing to leave we will just put the still unassembled side tables and dresser in their boxes right into the trailor...well that will be easy packing.
My next blog will have pictures and exciting adventures........well I promise pictures.

Can you believe it ....it is SNOWING

I can not believe this....we got into Calgary last night and when we woke up this morning....IT WAS SNOWING. It was a blizzard.... not just little flakes. We ran around and did a lot of errands today and tonight I am going to start on some knitting....I think I will finish up the thrummed mitts seeing as how they would have come in very handy today.
We sent Ruby to doggie daycare today so that we could start looking for apartments... I just called to see how she was doing and apparently she is a little rough and needed to be seperated from the other dogs for a bit (thats my girl)... I am totally mortified but I am sure that when I tell Sri he will get a little smile on his face.... I totally fear that we are raising the dog from HELL.
Anyway I have tons of pics from our 4 day journey of delights but I have to find the cable for the camera ( i know it is somewhere in the trunk).
Lots more to come but I have to go and pick up Ruby....I hope they take her back tomorrow.

I'm so sorry!!!

To all of my loyal readers (Natalie and Marie) I am so sorry for being lazy with the blog. I have been really busy trying to get ready to move. I have not done any knitting although I did purchase the Joan Greenhowe's Knitted Toys book and will be making everyone (young and old) knitted toys for Christmas ( I think I will have a lot of spare time in Calgary).

Since my last post Ruby was spayed.... what an ordeal that was....of course she had some strange complications and had to keep her stitches in and therefore that stupid cone on 9 days longer than the average dog. Here is a pic of her looking very pathetic and what you cant see is me (well you can see my leg) trying to ignore her.

Well she is doing wonderfully now and has ruined my whole backyard. Here she is terrorizing what used to be a glorious flower bed...now there is barely any soil in it.

I promise to keep up with my blog because i know that everyone is just sitting on the edge of their seat waiting for the next knitting/ruby adventure.
